Las Vegas visitor numbers fall 4.3% in August as Labor Day shifts

The LVCVA reported about 3.03 million visitors in August 2026, down 4.3%, partly because Labor Day fell on 7 September rather than 1 September.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) reported about 3.03 million visitors to Las Vegas in August 2026, down 4.3% from about 3.17 million in August 2025.

Hotel occupancy was 74.1%, down 3.4 percentage points, meaning roughly three of every four available rooms were occupied. The average daily room rate was about US$150 (US$150.32), down 7.4%. Both measures fell in the month in which the peak leisure window moved.

The LVCVA attributed the drop partly to the calendar. Labor Day fell on 7 September in 2026 versus 1 September in 2025, which moved the peak leisure window out of August and into the following month. The data was reported by News3LV, the Las Vegas Review-Journal and 8News Now.

Convention attendance moved in the other direction. It was 622,700, up 6% year on year, helped by schedule changes such as the CHAMPS trade show moving to August, which drew about 24,000 attendees.

Casino revenue did not follow visitation lower. The Nevada Gaming Control Board reported statewide gaming win of about US$1.27 billion for August, up 3.14%, with Las Vegas Strip win of US$684,087,062, up 0.70%. The month therefore combined fewer visitors, lower hotel occupancy and a lower room rate with higher casino revenue.

The August figure follows a 2025 in which Las Vegas welcomed about 38.5 million visitors, down 7.5% from 2024, according to the LVCVA. That was the first annual decline since the pandemic recovery.

In context: monthly tourism figures can swing on holiday timing alone, so a single month's change is best read alongside neighbouring months.
