UK caps bonus wagering at 10x and bans mixed-product promotions

From 19 January 2026, UK Gambling Commission rules limit online bonus wagering requirements to 10 times the bonus value and end cross-product offers.

A shield with a tick mark, for safety

From 19 January 2026, rules from the UK Gambling Commission limit wagering requirements on online promotions to a maximum of 10 times the bonus value. The same date brought a ban on mixed-product promotions. The rules apply to all UK-licensed online operators.

A wagering requirement is the number of times a bonus amount must be staked before any related winnings can be withdrawn. Under the new limit, that multiple cannot be higher than 10.

Under the mixed-product ban, a bonus can apply to one product only. For example, betting on a sport can no longer be used to unlock casino free spins. The changes were reported by iGamingToday and igaming.com, summarising Commission statements.

The measures come from the Commission's autumn 2023 consultation on licence conditions. The options considered ranged from banning wagering requirements altogether to caps of 1x, 5x or 10x. The Commission chose 10x.

The January changes sit alongside other UK consumer-protection measures that have been phased in since 2025, including the first phase of new deposit-limit rules that took effect on 31 October 2025.

In summary:

  • Wagering requirements on online promotions: maximum of 10 times the bonus value
  • Mixed-product promotions: banned; a bonus applies to one product only
  • Scope: all UK-licensed online operators

Because the consultation took place in autumn 2023, the rules took effect more than two years after it. Of the caps considered, 10x was the highest.

In context: a cap on wagering requirements sets a ceiling on how demanding a bonus condition can be, while the single-product rule keeps promotions tied to the product they are offered on.
